IDme IOT app
Application
For this project, we were tasked with creating an application that could utilize the internet of things to make life a little bit easier. Our team conceptualized an application that would utilize smart ID cards in grade schools in order to allow students to use their cards more efficiently as well as allow parents/teachers help their children even when they aren't around. The app is designed as a feed (similar to Twitter or Swarm) notify parents of things they can do to help their children. Some of the scenarios we proposed were:
- Student checks out library book; parents are notified of upcoming due dates
- Student is low on lunch balance; parents are notified of how many purchases before the balance reaches zero
- Students are on a field trip; teacher can locate children based on checkpoints/interests and plan a better lesson
Process
Before diving into the visual design of the application, copious amounts of research was done in order to get a better grasp of the internet of things was and how it worked. Our team also conducted concept validations for our app concepts before arriving at the idea of using smart IDs. We also researched current technologies that could be useful towards the app such as Coin and NFC chips.
